Vacation

For week two of our summer vacation we hit the road. (2,176 miles of road to be exact).

First we stopped in Albuquerque, NM to visit family and participate in the memorial service of my great-great-grandmother. It was a great time remembering her life.

Jack enjoyed building this lego castle with his Uncle Joel (Remember that trip to Toys R Us?):

Our final destination was the YMCA of Estes Park, Colorado, where Tiffany spent many childhood vacations. What we did there:
  • swam in the indoor pool
  • played mini golf
  • did NOT cook or clean up (all our meals were in a cafeteria)
  • Tiffany took Jack and Luke to a "Bugs, bugs, bugs" class
  • Rich took Jack and Luke to took an "Animal Detective" class
  • Rich drove to the Tundra and saw a moose only a few feet away
  • Jack and Papa went on a night hike and learned about night animals and constellations
  • Jack went to two mornings of camp, complete with songs, games, crafts, and horseback riding
  • Rich took Jack and Luke on a several mile hike (with no water or sunscreen but hey, we're building men)
  • retrieved items that the boys threw over the balcony (sometimes before the squirrels got to them)
  • watched HBO miniseries John Adams
  • read So Brave, Young and Handsome together in the car
  • stayed in the room with Luke while he was sick
  • celebrated Cole's first birthday in the common area of our lodge
  • saw badgers, deer, and squirrels up close
  • went to a cookout/concert
  • went running
  • Tiffany experienced a night on the town with her good friend Sarah in the very interesting and strange city of Boulder, Colorado. She now understands why it is referred to as "40 square miles surrounded by reality"
  • spent meals and evenings talking and laughing with Tiffany's parents and Grandmother Betty
  • sang along to God's Top Ten in the car, at which Jack cofessed "Money is my idol"
  • laughed repeatedly at Luke's request for "Chucky Larms"
